Color is one of the most visible elements in a pearl collection. Freshwater pearls offer naturally delicate shades as well as commercially treated colors, giving designers considerable freedom when the sourcing specification is clear.
Common natural colors
White remains the most versatile choice for bridal, gifting and classic jewelry. Pink and peach suit soft contemporary palettes, while lavender creates a more distinctive look. Each pearl may also display an overtone that changes under different viewing angles.
Why batches vary
Pearl color is affected by the mussel, growing conditions, nacre structure and viewing light. A single name such as white can include cool, neutral and creamy tones. Repeat orders should use an approved color range rather than a text label alone.
Treated colors and disclosure
Some pearls are bleached, dyed or otherwise enhanced to achieve a target appearance. Treatment is not automatically a quality defect, but it should be disclosed. Buyers should confirm treatment type, color stability, care advice and labeling obligations in the destination market.
Color inspection
Review pearls against a neutral background under a controlled light source. Use a color card in batch photography and retain physical samples for final approval. Earrings and matched sets require tighter tolerances and additional sorting.
