Pearls are organic gems with a comparatively soft surface. Clear care instructions help customers protect their jewelry and help brands reduce avoidable after-sales issues.
Clean gently after wear
Wipe pearls with a soft, slightly damp, lint-free cloth after use. This removes perspiration, skin products and surface dust. Allow the piece to air dry before storing it, and avoid abrasive cloths or brushes.
Keep away from chemicals
Perfume, hairspray, cosmetics, household cleaners and chlorinated water may affect pearl surfaces. A useful rule is to put pearls on last after getting ready and take them off first when returning home.
Do not use solvents to remove pearl color
Online cleaning discussions sometimes suggest acetone, peroxide, bleach or long chemical soaks to remove dye. Do not use these methods on pearl jewelry. Pearls can be damaged by acids and many chemicals, while solvents may also affect thread, adhesive, coatings and plated findings. If a color treatment is unwanted or uncertain, stop wearing the piece and ask a qualified jeweler or gemologist to assess it.
Store separately
Hard gemstones, chains and sharp findings can scratch pearls. Store pearl jewelry flat in a soft pouch or lined compartment. Avoid long-term hanging of knotted strands, which may stretch the thread.
Inspect and service
Check string tension, knots, clasps, posts and adhesive settings. Frequently worn strands may eventually need restringing. Include a concise branded care card in retail packaging so the customer receives instructions at the point of purchase.
